"LOOKING AT THE BIG WORLD OUTSIDE!"
The pups are taking a look at the world outside the whelping pen. They are now 5 weeks old and are more responsive to my visits to feed & play with them. When they hear my approach , they rush to the door to await for it to open to greet me.
It was a wild week of weather here with some warm/humid days and later in the week thunder/lightning storms. The light show from the lightning over the lake late Wednesday evening was spectacular.
The wet/hot/ humid weather also caused more Black Fly activity along with their cousins the House Flies & the Deer Flies. At times here there seems to only two seasons WINTER & FLIES!
Just joking, after the Black Fly season is finished, the forest is a paradise to live in.

"NATURES BEAUTY IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
Another spectacular sunset, as shown by the photo taken this week.
The weather this week started to warm up and was accompanied by nice sunny days. There was just a sprinkle of rain this week. However, with the warm weather and the humidity the Black Flies continued their onslaught. This has been,so far, the worst year that I have experienced to date for the Black Flies. I will be very happy when they are gone!
I started using cider vinegar, spraying it around the puppies area and it seems to help a bit. The adult dogs are protected more due to the addition of garlic powder in their feed. Even though the Black Flies are not biting the dogs, they are annoying swarming around them.
The pups are growing and are becoming more fun to play with. They come running to the door of the whelping pen when they hear my approach.

" IT IS A BIG WORLD OUT THERE!"
As two of the pups inspect the world outside their whelping box, you wounder what they are thinking? The puppies are changing daily with their new found mobility. They are now regularly feeding solid food with their mother when she is being fed. It is funny to see the progression from experimenting at what is in the bowl to now running to the bowl and digging right in as soon as it is deposited into the whelping box. Cannelle has to hurry to get her share.
The unsettled weather here this week has caused an explosion in the Black Fly population. These little critters swarm you and if they land on you they draw blood. They are very annoying and I will be happy when their brief season comes to an end! Their presence certainly interferes with outdoor activity.

"A NEW WORLD OF DISCOVERY IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
The puppies have now opened their eyes and are walking around. These changes are now widening their little world and opening it up for discovery. It is amazing to observe the changes taking place as they grow and develop. The one thing that hasn't changed is their great desire to feed and then lay in a group ( for comfort and warmth ) to have a sleep.
The weather here has been unsteady with some nice warm sunny days to very cool, windy ones.
We had a little rain, which is good to keep the forest from getting to dry.
The adult dogs in the kennel are just relaxing during the off season. Star gets a little upset when she hears the puppies cry as she remembers hers when they were young. She thinks these puppies need her mothering.

" LA PETITE RAPIDES IN THE NORTHERN FOREST! "
The peace and tranquility of sitting by a small creek listening to the water rush over the rocks.
It has been a cool, wet week here with even some snow showers on Sunday.
Sorry for the delay in posting this weeks blog, but there were problems with the computer and after a short 4 years a new monitor was required. I guess even here you can run into complications with manufactures quality problems. Lucky this was the week that I had to go for the monthly shopping for supplies. To get a new monitor it was a round trip of over 4 hours. As it is, the monthly supply trip takes a whole day. However, the new monitor is great and has a 3 year warranty a lot better than the original one.
It is good to get back into the forest with its simplicity of life away from the bustling crowd.
The puppies are really growing and getting a lot more active. Yesterday, two of them opened their eyes for the first glimpse of the big world. It wont be long now before all of them open their eyes and the whole group start exploring. Cannelle is a great mother and is very attentive to here brood. I am having a good time watching the puppies development and bonding with them.
